Maryann Castronovo (she/her) is an award-winning writer and editor. She spent the first part of her career in New York City and Los Angeles, working for Sony Pictures Television and Film as a screenplay Story Editor. After having two boys, she wrote a humorous weekly newspaper column in Los Angeles and San Diego that ran for eight years. As both a writer and editor, she uses her unique background in journalism, screenwriting, and storytelling to help writers put ideas into stories that are at once relatable, understandable, and memorable and connect with people on an emotional level. For the past 13 years, Maryann has helped high school and college students with their college essay-writing process. She holds a Specialized High School College Counseling Certificate from the University of California, San Diego.

During the college application season, she also consults as a Full Application Specialist and Quality Control Lead for The College Essay Guy.
